Due to students feeling that were not prepared for the test, we are going ot take the test on the Civil War today.
We are then going to continue with creating a review booklet of the Most important terms from US history by looking at this Powerpoint:

Civics: Today is going to be a make-up day. Students are going to work on any missing assignments. I have made a copy of any missing assingments that the students requested.
If all work is complete, students can work on their persuasive issue poster and Guided Reading 12.
In both classes, students will have the opportunity to make Get Well cards for my friend Paul Bailey who suffered from a fall when rock climbing in Australia. More info here.

Then, we are going to create Visual Notes using Chapter 8, sections 1 and 2. The students will be given an example on the board. Essentially, the student will create big bubbles with each of the major blue titles and smaller bubbles for the red bubbles. Section 1 should have 3 major bubbles and 8 minor red bubbles. This will be completed on large computer paper.
Civics: Today we will be focusing on the Landmark Decisions of the Supreme Court. We are going to create a visual map using all decisions on page 258 in the Civics Today textbook. Each box is going to be its own bubble with information and a fact needs to be added to each bubble using the Supreme Court summaries section 792-797. this will be completed on large computer paper.

If time, or tomorrow (Tues)When complete we are going to create our own map of the trails heading west in the United States. On the handout it says page 395, instead the page is going to be 256 in the America Visions Textbook.
Civics and Economics: I am going to start out by giving back your Presidential quiz graded. We can discuss scores on the quiz and talk about the possibly of making up the quiz.
Due to my absence, and not seeing any completed Guided Reading 8 turned in. Students will have time to complete it in class.
When complete, we are going to read together the Primary Sources on page 264 and 265 in the Civics Today textbook and students will answer the questions individually.
Note:I was absent on Friday. Students in US History started on Guided Reading 7: Manifest Destiny and Civics worked on Guided Reading 8: The Federal Courts.
This week is a weird schedule because we do not have school on Wednesday for Veteran's Day.

Yesterday we finished the Constitution Scavenger Hunt but did not have time to look at the Constitution Test.
Today- We are going to spend the class period completing the test individually using textbook and notes. We will have this test tomorrow (Friday). Go Home and Study it!!!
Also, I have some students that have not completed the Amendments Sheet, I will give you the opportunity to finish this and any other missing work.

1.03 Assess commercial and diplomatic relationships with Britain, France, and other nations.
Today- We will be completing Guided Reading 4. This will be the last day. We will then work on this test. You can use your notes and textbook on this mock test. Once students are finished with the test we will go over it and make sure all students have the correct answers.
The real test will be on Monday, and will look very similar to the test you have in your hand (hint, hint). The test will be on Chapter 4 in the America Visions Textbook.
The test will be Monday, as 2nd Period will not be meeting tomorrow.
During class, the Teacher will be walking around the room helping students with the assignment.
Both Classes: As an incentive to check the blog, I have made an extra credit opportunity where if you make a comment on any post in this blog you will get 5 points extra credit on your next test!

While students are working on Guided Reading 4, I will finish grading all previous work and turn it back to the students.
3rd Civics - We got distracted yesterday and did not have time to finish the Scavenger Hunt and Sample Test. I will give this out and we will have the test. The Test will be on Friday.
What we did yesterday: “We are going to take the short quiz that we did not take yesterday. This is going to start out class and then we are going to go over it as a group. When complete we are going to finish the back page of the Constitutional Scavenger Hunt .We are then going to take a mock test on a Civics Constitution Test that we will have on Thursday."

You are a travel agent working for the Colonial Travel Agency and your boss needs you to create a travel brochure to attract settlers to the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies. This task is worth 100 points.

We will start with a quiz on the Branches of Government.
Students will need to complete the following Chart, using the image a guideline. They need to complete it on their own piece of paper.
We are going to take notes on Page 11 in our binder. Independence Declared. A link can be found here.
After completion of the notes we are going to finish our Colonial Life Journal by the end of class. I expect that everyone should be complete by the end of class. (for information and links to this assignment, check yesterday's blog post)
US History:
We are going to start by taking notes of Page 7 in our binder. Revolutionary War Notes.
After we finish the notes, students will have the rest of the period to finish their Guided Reading 2. It will be required to be turned in by the end of class. For a link to the Guided Reading 2, look at previous blog entries.
Remember this Friday is a half-day for all students!

While in America, you kept a journal to record your thoughts and impressions of the regions, people, culture, and economic developments. You want your journal to be published so that people of England will better understand what life is like in Colonial America.
You will be expected to write at least 4 journal entries.
This task is worth a quiz grade.
Journal Format
Your journal should be typed or handwritten (if handwritten, the journal must be legible and neat.
Each journal entry must be at least one paragraph (5 detailed sentences).

Today, we are going to watch the ideo on Jamestown: The Nightmare, to introduce ourselves to the problems the early colonists faced. We are going to have a short discussion after the movie.

Civics:
Today, we are going to watch the Presidents Address @ 12. If you do not want to watch it with the class, we will have other educational opportunities available. After the address, we will have a short discussion on the contents of the address.
I will give back the graded Quizzes from Friday, we will go over them and look at the possibilities of taking it over.
We will then begin working on Guided Reading 2

Using the template located here.The expectations for this assignment are for students to color each region a different color from its neighbors the following regions: New England Colonies, Middle Colonies, and Southern Colonies. Those can be found here. You can also use Page 32 in the Americas Visions (US History) textbook.
Also, locate the following places:The 13 Colonies. Proclamation Line of 1763, British Territory, the great lakes and the following cities: Savannah, Charleston, New Bern, Williamsburg, Annapolis, Philadelphia, Trenton, New York, New Haven, Providence, Boston, Portsmouth. That order is from south to north.

We are going to start with the quiz. This should take about 20 minutes.
Next, we are going to take Notes of the "Beginnings of America." We will start to look at the founding of the United States, starting with the landing of Europeans in the New World.

First, we are going to go over and grade Guided Reading 1. This should take approx. 20 minutes.
We are then going to discuss the North v. South Venn Diagram that we created yesterday. I have graded those that were turned in. We need to make sure to understand the differences in the development of the colonies.
I will return papers during this time.

Today's Topic is Colonial Life
We are going to focus in how the Northern and Southern Colonies developed differently and how that development influenced their population. As a class, we are going to be able to identify the Middle Passage and describe what life was like for a slave in the South.
How the colonies developed would influence American History especially until the Civil War.
We will also discover how these early developments, especially in the north would influence ideas of self-government. (goal 1.02)

I had originally put them on Google documents but, you had to have a google username and password to download the original PDF. I have moved the Guided Readings for US and Civics over to Google Sites. You do not have to register with Google to download them in their original PDF format to print them.

Today, we will be making signs with the classroom rules. Students will be provided materials and will choose one of the classroom rules to complete a sign. Students are encouraged to be creative.

4. No Gang Stuff
5. No Eating or Drinking (water ok)
6. Do not raise your voice at anyone.
7. Make sure your comments are appropriate.
The best ones from all the classes will be posted in the classroom.
The winners will be given a surprise by Mr. Grove.
After those are complete, students will be completing a Scavenger Hunt. This will help student began to understand the resources that are available in the textbook. Students may not finish this by the end of class. Students are to work individually on this assignment.
