Science Homework: Florida Everglades Brochure

Visit the Wetlands of the Florida Everglades Brochure
Create a brochure containing information for people who would like to visit the wetlands of the Florida Everglades.  Your brochure should include the following:
-          A title or cover
-          Description of what wetlands are
-          Some types of wildlife found in the Everglades
-          Description of human activities that threaten wetlands like the Everglades
-          3 reasons why wetlands are so important

-          At least 2 illustrations, use color!

The Declaration of Independence



“Declaration of Independence” Analysis

Answer the following completely and clearly on notebook paper.  Use your own words to explain your understanding of Jefferson’s ideas.  Only quote from the document when asked to do so.  Use quotation marks to indicate that you are quoting from the document. 
Skip lines between answers. Use textbook pages 122 – 125 and your notes.

     1.       In the first paragraph, what does Jefferson mean by the phrase “Powers of the earth”?
     2.       In the second paragraph, whom does Jefferson say has given men their “unalienable Rights”?
     3.       Explain the meaning of the term unalienable.
     4.       List three of the unalienable rights that Jefferson mentions in this document.
     5.       According to Jefferson, why do people create governments?
     6.       From where do governments get their power?
     7.       What two choices do people have when their government fails to do the job it was created to do?
     8.       Quote a phrase from the second paragraph that indicates what kind of new government people should create after abolishing their old one.
     9.       Eighteen paragraphs begin with the word he.  Who is “he”?
10.       In the last sentence of the Declaration, the signers state that they are relying on the protection of whom?

11.       The signers realize that signing the Declaration is dangerous for them.  Quote the three things they promise to sacrifice if needed for this cause.

Complete one of the following assignments.  Each assignment is worth the same number of points.
A. Answer the following questions out of the textbook.
            Pg. 643 #1-4, Pg. 644 #8-11, 13-16, 18-22, Pg. 645 #2-5
           

B. Complete the “Alien Periodic Table” on pg. 636 -637.  Draw the blank alien periodic table on a separate sheet of paper from pg. 637.  Use the elements and clues on pg. 636 to fill in the table. This assignment can be a challenge!

C. Create a song or rap about chemistry or the elements.  Your lyrics must be at least 16 lines in length and include at least 10 facts about the periodic table.  You can earn extra credit by performing your song or rap for the class. 

D. Create an “Illustrated Guide” for Chapter 15.  On computer paper or construction paper, draw AND color the following figures from Chapter 15: 
fig. 8 pg 613; fig 12 pg. 619; fig. 13 pg. 620; fig. 20 pg. 629; fig 21 pg. 630; fig. 26 pg 634.  You will be graded on neatness for this assignment.
