Friday Febuary 26th, 2010

Civics: We will be investigate the founding of Jamestown and the mysteries that surround that event. As a class, we will watch The History Channel: The Nightmare of Jamestown, while watching the documentary, we will be answering these video Questions.


US History: We will be complete going over and taking notes on the Goal 3 Vocabulary Presentation for this week.

When complete, we are going to go over and grade Guided Reading 8 and 9 in-class.

We will not have the Quiz on Goal 3 Vocabulary Today.

I will also be returning graded Goal 2 Puzzles.

Training Days

I will be gone 3 days from Febuary 23rd to the 25th for training.

Civics: Students will have a packet to work on.
US History: Students will complete Guided Reading 8 and Guided Reading 9 sections 1 and 2.

Mapping

Civics: Students are going to have another make-up day to make sure everything is complete.

US History: Today we are going to have a make-up and review day. I am going to hand-out progress reports and allow students to complete all assignments in class.
Addtionally: Students are to create Maps of 1796 and 1823, the details of those mapping assignments are below.

Civics: We are going to retake the quiz on "What is Civics" this time the grade will count.
As a class, we are also going to review the Rights of Citizens Quiz.

Finally, we have time, we are going to create our own map of the 13 colonies.

• Color each region a different color (3 total)
Identify the major cities in each colony (page 42)
Use page 39 and page 40 in the Civics today

Civics and Economics: We will be taking a quiz on "What is Civics" Link Here. We will then be reading and discussing "Why we study civics" Students should be complete with Guided Reading 1, Guided Reading 2, and Guided Reading 3. Each is its own link.

We will go over the quiz and discuss the answer, deciding if students need remediation on certain concepts.

US History: Students are going to have an opportunity to study Goal 2 Vocabulary. (with definitions.) We are then going to take a test on Goal 2 Vocab. Test Link here. When complete students can work on Timelines.

Students can also work on Guided Reading 5: Growth and Division.

US History: We are going to use our vocabulary terms to create a timeline!
• Take all the vocabulary words and create a timeline of when each event occurred.

For the people:
find a year when they became famous,
for their inventions or the books they wrote
If you cannot find a date, find a range of when they lived. (birth and death)

Materials: Textbooks, notebook and large format paper.
– Use any other resources in the room (colored pencils, etc)

1st step: Find when each event’s or persons’ date
2nd: Put them in order on a large piece of paper.

Notes: Make it look good! Lets put the good ones up in the classroom or hallway

Remember: Quiz tomarrow on the Vocabulary Words.
Study!!!! Take the info home and study.


Civics and Economics: We are going to finish The Patriot and then we are going to discuss it. We are then going to complete Guided Reading 3: The Costitution

US History: We are going to finish the last 5 vocabulary words from the Goal 2 Presentation. Then we are going to complete this crossword puzzle of Goal 2 individually.

US History: I am going to pass back the quiz from yesterday and we are going to go over the correct answers. I am going to give out Goal 2: Expansion and Reform (1801-1850) Sheet. Link Here.
Remember we will drop the lowest 2 test grades.

We are going to review the terms and decide on which terms are most important that we need to know for the EOC. We are going to go over this list, these are the terms that will be on the test on Friday!
There are 57 terms on the review sheet, we are going to choose 25.

When complete, students are going to have the rest of the time to complete guided Reading 4, individually.

Civics: We are going to take notes on page 2 Citizenship, 3 Duties and Rights of Citizens. When complete, we are going to work on Guided Reading 3 individually. Link here.

US History: We are going to have our quiz on Goal 1. It is challenging and requires students to study. When complete we are going to finish Guided Reading 4 individually.
