Today in science class we started our Chapter 4 Table of Contents and our Word Wall. We shared some good news about our Halloween weekend!

Science:

                What we learned in class today was changing states of matter. I will describe how matter changes between states and write definitions of changing states. Like the freezing point of water is 0 degrees Celsius and vapor is a change from a liquid to a gas. And we all are taking test today chapter 3 section 4 notes.

We watched a 20 minute video on matter (density, volume, weight, etc.) Things we also learned about in the video was solids, liquids, gases, and plasma. We graded our quizzes from yesterday and worked on our u picks.

Science: 

   Today in Science class, we started off by watching a video about how water reacts in space. We then continued to take notes on how the terms mass, volume, and density describe matter. Every substance has a unique density, you can even use density to identify an unknown substance (EX- 2 liters of water and 2 cups of water WILL HAVE THE SAME DENSITY, because it is the same substance). We started Chapter 3, Section 2 Changes in Matter. This chapter is about classifying changes in matter as physical or chemical. A physical change alters the appearance of matter, but DOES NOT make a new substance (ex- crushing, breaking, bending, dissolving). The 3 states of matter are solids, liquids, and gases. Solids hold shape, and has a fixed volume. Liquids fit to the shape of the container, they have a free surface, and a fixed volume. Gases fit the shape of the container, and the volume of the container. After, we went over the correct answers for the Density virtual lab papers.

Social Studies:

                In Social Studies class today, we first took time to look over our notebooks before doing the notebook check. We then watched a documentary about the Revolutionary War called “America: the story of us”, while answering questions as we watched.

Science:

                Today in class, we learned how the terms mass, volume, and density describe matter. Weight and mass are often thought to be the same thing. Weight is the measure of the force of gravity on an object. Mass is the amount of matter in an object (it is measured in grams and kilograms). Volume is the amount of space an object takes up (measured in millimeters or cubic centimeters). To find the density, you have to divide the mass by the volume (Units=g/mL or g/cm cubed).

 Social Studies

                Today in Social Studies, we started off with a brief discussion about the final Presidential Debate between candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton looks to be in the lead after the debate that took place. After our discussion, we identified the powers in the Constitution and to whom they are given. We made a 6 set foldable on the different branches of Government, the Amendment process, the Federal System, and the Checks and Balances.  We took the last 20 minutes to organize our notebooks for our notebook check.

Science:

Today in science, we talked about the field trip later on October 27. After that, we went to the media center for the last time this week. We did another virtual reality lab where we had to find density, mass, and volume of the given objects. Density is a physical property of matter that is calculated by dividing the mass of an object by its volume.

Social Studies:

Today in Social Studies, we went over the 3 branches of the government: Judicial, Executive, and Legislative. We then went to the media center and some of us took the WIN survey. While in the media center, we did a work assignment where we cut and pasted different parts of the government to the 3 different branches.

Science:

                             Today in science class, we learned about the Archimedes Principle. The Archimedes Principle states that the buoyant force acting on a submerged object is equal to the weight of the fluid the object displaces. We then used a virtual lab to find the mass, volume, and density and materials and crystals. To find those, we had to use a virtual 3 beam balance scale.

Social Studies:

                In social studies class today, we first talked about politics and the election coming up. After that, we talked about some more current events for a little bit. We then wrote down notes in a fill in the blank worksheet on the Government we had in the 1700's.
